I’ve watched my great grandmother clean and _clean_ them things, pull of the membrane and cook these things outside in her cast iron pot with a mixture of seasonings I couldn’t tell you and the smell was still pretty damn stout. I will never try any because I *cannot* get past that smell! Thank God my great grandmother never put any on my plate because I knew I would have to eat it!

When I was ten my uncle killed a wild hog and my grandmother, who raised me, made me help her clean the chitlins, or shitlins as they should be called. Literally from noon until the sun went down, we were in that yard with a water hose running the shit out of those damn things. I was covered in pig shit, my legs, my face, my neck. It was disgusting! Probably the most traumatic thing I've experienced. She didn't have a shower so I had to take two baths to get that shit off of me. I had to take a bath, clean out the tub and then take another bath. I didn't even get to eat any of the hog! I hated that woman. I didn't even go to her funeral. Nowadays, she would have gone to jail for the things she did to me.

I’m married to a black man and the first time I ever saw chitlins was Thanksgiving at his family’s (I’m from Chicago). We were all standing around the buffet table saying grace and of course, I was in front of the chitlins on the table. Black people don’t say grace quickly. Everyone gets to add to the prayer and that shit could go on for 10 minutes. I’m just like Gary...couldn’t get away fast enough. 🤢🤮 The next day someone was reheating leftovers in the microwave and I am not lying, that smell never came out, even after a year. Makes me gag just thinking about them.

They had a lot of pig on a truck, I though they was so cute until her came out to say he got a fresh one and the bucket was smoking steam. 2 my mom started cleaning them for the family and herself. that shit did not smell good. I was sick before the holidays. 3 my auntie decided to make some and she throw the good part away and cooked the bad part. My mom eat some and had to tell her she cook the wrong parts. With that said NO ONE should eat them because how do you know whats the bad part IT ALL LOOK THE SAME. lol all of it looks like bad parts to me.
