My boss got the 2021 7 series as a loaner car and it was sooo quick. The car didn't even have 200 miles on it and wow it was quick! After having the car for 2 days and the gauge cluster went blank. He couldn't see how fast he was going, gas, rpm, the seatbelt warning was going off for some reason when he was in park. His e540i was in the shop because something went wrong is his steering wheel column, twice. Twice they had to order parts from Germany. Just goes to show how really really careless, unreliable, and stupid the manufacturers can be, and how customers can be thinking that they are luxury vehicles.

It's sad that these really beautiful but unreliable cars will meet their demise in a junk yard 10 years later while luxury cars from decades ago, although unreliable, can still be on the roads if maintained properly.

I remembered my uncle purchased a Range Rover and the suspension broke while he was driving in a foreign country.

The BMW 7 series you are using as an example doesnt have the original time bomb N63 though. Its important to add that the N63 received several revisions/updates (N63TU) so technically speaking the newer N63 cars like the one in this video doesnt have those issues.

BMW, Volvo, Cadillac, Audi, sometimes Mercedes Benz, Maserati, = Lease for 3 yrs & ditch. Latest tech, great interior design & material quality but piss poor long term reliability...and no, we can’t factor in mechanics that own and work on these. An everyday BMW owner isn’t working on anything but Yoga & a trip to Whole Foods ! Lexus, Acura = Can keep them for 20 yrs & go past the 250k mile mark without breaking a sweat ! Not the best tech nor design but they keep you away from your wallet !

These kind of luxury cars you should lease with a prepaid maintenance program factored in the monthly lease plan. No surprises whatsoever. If the monthly payment is acceptable, go for it. Otherwise, spare yourself a headache and go for Lexus.

The N63 TU2 and TU3 are very reliable if you keep up with maintenance and know how to turn a wrench. The first and second generation N63’s is the one you need to run from.

The BMW G12 750Li is equipped with N63B44O1, N63B44O2, N63B44M3 and N63B44T3 engines which are completely different engines from the first N63B44O0 engine. These issues are solved a long time ago. The newest N63 is an all excellent engine that doesn’t get the respect is deserves. It is surprising BMW didn’t put the N63 name in its past after the tragic start. Original N63’s and updated N63’s share only few parts. However, BMW has shown their commitment to the N63. Today, it is one of the most impressive, underrated BMW engines.

Safe bet that a car may not stay reliable for 10 years. So what? To buy a car is to set fire to money. Don't set fire to any more than you can readily afford. Elderly drivers of Hondas and Toyotas rate them as reliable because the cars get little punishment. Younger owners of BMWs and Audis use them harder and they break down sooner and more often. Cars that rely on too much tech and advanced electronics fry in heatwaves and go wrong. Cars with bullshit design features attract suckers. Best bet if you have a big driveway is to have 2 or 3 basic old cars so that one is always working - cars made pre-2010 with low mileage, full service history, normally aspirated engines, manual transmission, minimal bullshit electronics, and which have been kept in temperate climate are going to be relatively cheap to buy and (if not "luxury" brands) relatively cheap to keep on the road. But you will feel humble and diminished as you ride around in your aged Toyota Corolla or Volvo SUV. You will look poor even though you are richer than you would be showing off in some flashy "performance" vehicle.

My bmw M5 burned oil from day one. 75k miles later still uses same amount so nothing unusual there..agree about the battery although I've only replaced once in 9 years but they are expensive to replace. Use mine daily

We’ve owned three BMW’s and still have two of them. 330XI with only 80,000 miles, we’ve had several issues. X5 with 75,000 miles, after the last $3,300 repair bill we unloaded it. X1 so far so good. My recommendation, if you’d like to get one, LEASE IT!

A ‘great’ car must include longevity, not just style, performance and luxury. If it doesn’t last it’s simply a waste of money.

Still driving my 2011 BMW 750I with 132K miles on her. Luckily BMW paid for the oil consumption issue fix $8K+ I had the front end overhauled $3K Brakes with rotors $2500 Other then these items it’s been a great car and gets 22MPG highway and 19MPG around town.

Consumer Reports has the Audi A4 as one of their highest rated cars. If they are that much trouble, I wonder why CR gives them such a high rating. When I watch videos like this, I think I’m better off with my harsh riding GTI than moving on to a BMW or Audi for a softer, quieter ride.

A luxury car that is unreliable isn't a luxury car, it's a hassle. I am convinced that even for celebrities or professionals sports people, where the cost of repairs doesn't sting their large budgets, having a car that regularly needs repairs is a big irritation!

After all luxury cars which is i have it before in past i stay with my new Lexus ls 500 reliably and great sedan. But expensive 90k😎

I love your analyses. What is truly disturbing is that each of the companies you mentioned have been in existence about 80 to 100 years. So they have a combined 400 years of experience and they still have basic issues like oil leaks and loud sounds?? Maybe instead of redesigning these cars, the manufacturers should first fire their existing engineers.
