Watching you whip up the die gave me a thought: Stackable discs to quickly make a die for any thickness square tubing and bend diameter. Not sure if that's possible or even practical. Just sets of varied diameters and thicknesses that can be quickly bolted together or something. Coming from a man who's never even used a bender, so could be a dumb idea

I saw a video from AVE on how to impact something that’s in a difficult location. Use a blunt ended air chisel (or equivalent) on a wrench of choice. Just some advice for the next time you’re taking of a chainsaw clutch to make a gokart

My did did this with a chain saw he cut his big toe off with, 😂 no brakes be no clutch push start and Kurds to stop 😂 in the early 90’s so safety wasn’t as high on the list.

Hey Tony, Just an FYI, that's exactly the best way to remove a chainsaw clutch assembly. However, just keep in mind, you'll want to bring the piston to almost TDC or at least pass the exhaust port so that the length of rope doesn't get jammed up in there. 👍

Just to satisfy my curiosity - what would be the better way of securing the brake and sprocket to the axle? I have no machining background but my best guess would have been those keyed slots and set screw assembly. My next thought was that it can't be a good solution, because the benefit of being able to easily swap/optimize parts seems to far outweigh the difficulty of manufacturing the system... so what am I missing? Worried that it won't hold the parts securely enough? Too much shear force applied to the set screw?

Back in the 80's a friend and I took a Yamaha 80cc two stroke bike that had a bent head stock. We cut out the part of the frame that mounted the engine, welded it to a base plate in the cart and mounted the engine. We devised a little a "T Handle" shifting bracket and a foot clutch. We had five speeds and it went like he'll. I often wished for a 250cc engine but realised we likely would have gotten killed with that much power. Finally life went on and it got put in the back of the barn with hopes of resurrecting it some day... Damn it was fun while it lasted.

Bike gears have slotting to enable up and down shifting, my guess is there's gonna be problems with it. Even if you line it perfectly straight any movement from motor vibration or riding will throw it.

The saw has between 2~2.2hp and the wide open throttle speed for tuning the saw unloaded is 13,500rpm. The saw gets the most power under load around 9,000~10,500rpm. These engines are tuned and designed for use wide open throttle only - they don't have a wide power band. You can get some extra power (and noise) out of it by opening up the muffler a little and retuning. In terms of drive chain, bicycle chain isn't up to the task. A human can at most (olympic levels) sustain 1hp of output for brief periods. More likely the average human can sustain not much more than about half a horsepower continuously. The best chain for this purpose is generally.... saw chain. unless you want to go to belts, go kart chain etc. Saw chain obviously can take the full load of the saw. Several tools are made for attaching to saw heads, most notably drills, chop saw heads, winches etc. They're almost universally driven by saw chain with the cutters cut off. There are sprockets of many sizes available for racing saws, or you can make them yourself. You can sometimes find the older atom drill heads for $cheap and they're reversible also - giving you a reverse gear. Can also attach a drill to them for robot war go kart races. May need a few more kids though - consult your wife if in doubt ;-)

Years ago (2006?) guy I worked with took pretty much any chainsaw or 'weed-whacker' motor and ported them to use in model speedboats. Managed to get one dyno'ed one time, made almost 6.5hp@30,0000. Life wasn't very long but I guess model boat racers didn't care? (Was trading as 'Toxic Marine) In fact, seeing this, I think I'll contact Allen and see if there is a 'better' 12mm carb for some of the junk leaf blowers I have, not happy with 15~20 min run time on grandsons battery buggy (lead acid on RAZER)

@2:03 I love my Poulan, easy starts, lots of power. It can be a tad difficult when it runs out of gas. I bought it out of desperation, I got tired of fighting ny Husky Rancher 55. After 2 years it's still going strong, and the Husky has been sent to the graveyard for unfit saws. Granted I'm no wood chuck, but I do more cutting than the average home owner.

The answer to your query @6:51 is simply to ensure that THERE IS a repair industry for bicycles. While I’m not technically a bicycle technician I am however a certified motorcycle technician (and PE/small engines tech because American Honda is weird like that) and we have a very common saying within the industry, Ehh hmmm “Propriety Technology”.. We all know what it means as well as have our own feelings as to why it exists. Trade secrets is my vote, and I wouldn’t figure the bicycle industry is any different.

If it's close to 3/4" conduit you always add 6" and bend at the +6" mark and at 90 degrees, the length to the other end of the arc would be back to 0" if that makes any sense! Of course the bar bend radius is tighter than that of conduit!
