As much as I support you. This seems too formal and staged. I am skeptical of this video. 2:42 You can tell that this is probably a strategy to make people to think differently. I do think Buzzfeed paid these two people to leave to make this video. This doesn't seem authentic like other videos.

Kristin, I love you. And Jen of course! Your experiences are so totally valid. I worked myself way too hard for a few years and my body revolted. I had vertigo for a year and a half. The doctors acted like I was faking it. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I’m so excited to see what you two do on your channel!! I love you two!

I am so sorry to hear that you were so unhappy in the past, I totally get how you can feel that you should be grateful you have a job but also hate your job. I have had jobs like that in the past where you give it your all and don't feel appreciated. Glad you are doing better and are happier! Thanks for sharing!

Also totally applaud your recognition of privilege and I am so sorry about your suicidal ideation, I faced burnout and experienced the same thing. I got to the point where the same thing was said to me by my psych and I feel so validated by your experience. But when you said you had 2000 in your bank account and you think thats LOW....my stomach kinda knotted. I am a teacher and I have 800. This isn't a competition of misery and I am sorry you went through that and I wish you the best in your new ventures.

I can relate to all of this - so many similarities to my former employers. It makes you think you're the problem when, in reality, you're the product that they're benefiting from so keeping you in your place is their primary goal. Instead of keeping you happy they choose to keep you contained through quota and arbitrary rules and offering a higher payrate than other alternatives. So glad you are doing your own thing now - best of luck!

I can relate so much. All my workplaces I have worked had the same attitude. I am from Latvia - small country in Europe. I am not saying that all the bosses are like that, but I have only experience with people like you are describing - always wanting more and not really letting you know that you are doing a good job. There is no reward for effort, just "maybe you can get somewhere if you work hard and good enough".... I am sick of this work culture. It is making people miserable.

Thank you for sharing your story. I don’t work in the same field but how you both were feeling is exactly how I’ve been feeling for nearly 2 years. I didn’t see this as you complaining about a privileged job rather you shared a very relatable reality for so many people about balancing being thankful for something and it just being time to walk away from something. Jobs aren’t meant to last forever- so thank you for sharing a real outlook on depression- and having the courage to walk away!

My god, this is really hitting me that it’s exactly how I’ve been feeling working at the nhs (National healthcare service) in the U.K. I have felt suicidal and overworked, harassed and bullied for the last 5 years I’ve been there and feel like what is it all for. I like most of my colleagues but it feels like that common goal thing with no endpoint. The management or senior staff are often toxic and it makes the whole working environment toxic. We aren’t seen as humans and are overworked and treated badly and unfairly but I have that same guilt for having a job, especially right now and also since I’m 35 and have only recently got a stable contract for the first time in my life but I still want to leave so badly. I may end up having to leave without another job and just figure out some alternative as it will end up killing me. I never imagined there would be so many parallels with somewhere like buzz feed or people working in a creative field. Glad you made the move that was best for you and so glad you’re still making content online. I have just subscribed!

I'm so sorry to hear of your situation. You are spending your 30's, the last decade of your life where you are legitimately young, in a place that makes you feel like you want to die. Is that really stability? They don't deserve you. I get that paying the bills is a priority, I really do, but damn . . . ten years from now, will you still feel like it was worth it? I know that finding another decent job is really hard right now, especially when you're constantly drained from your current job, but maybe you can make a deal with yourself . . . like if in six month you don't find another position, you quit anyway and move on to plan B? Also, I think not "making it" professionally until later in life is becoming a far more common thing. A lot of people completely change careers in mid-life and start over. Whatever you decide to do, a random stranger on the internet is pulling for you. Good luck, I believe in your power - I hope you do too.

I think most of the time when you spend so much time in one company you feel like if you leave what now? You feel like it's the best you ever will have and since your making good money you feel like you should not be even complaint...but when you make the move and actually quit ..life just goes on man don't ever stay in a position cuz you feel to invested. if your not happy just leave.

I know I'm 3 months late, but this video was just recommended to me. And I viewed it at the perfect time. My job undervalues me and passed me up for a promotion I was very qualified for and gave it to a less qualified person because of very biased reasons in my opinion. When they broke the news to me, they used it as an opportunity to tear me down as an employee. It sucks because I love the work I do and the people I work with, but I genuinely felt like they didn't care about me at all when they made and delivered their decision. I think it's time for me to find a way out.

I worked for Hershey Entertainment and Resorts and experienced the same thing they are both talking about. As a “lower” member of management I was over worked and never rewarded. It drained me mentally and it got really scary. Scary to the point that even after I left the job, 2 months later I signed myself into a psych ward (extremely suicidal). The American work ethic should not be burn out, period.

It seems that there is a lot of gaslighting here. It's a "privilege" to have a job, to have health care, to have a wage? Since you're so privileged to have an income you should tolerate a toxic work culture. It is not a privilege to be compensated for the work you do. Some things are privilege and entitlement but I think it brings an opportunity to manipulate and gaslight others if you use the terms too loosely and use them against people.

Sales jobs are frequently like this. Do more, you hit your best goal, but do better. Do better. We need this many. Work faster. You exceeded your goal, but work even faster. So and so does it faster, why can't you? Even if it wasn't phrased that way all the time, the intent was there. High stress, never feeling adequate, panic attacks because you felt that even your best and the goal that was set for you was never going to be up to par. Bosses telling you that these feelings are completely self inflicted when you know you've never felt that way before in any job, but you second guess yourself. I get it completely. That's why those kinds of jobs usually have high turnover. Some people will stay because they want to scramble to the top, but their really not happy when it comes down to it.

Jeez, this makes so much sense. I can remember the stuff Kristin was doing at BF during this dark time, and it was just cringe. Just nonstop whining about major clothes companies not making her size, all while grimacing like a mime and stuffing herself into clothes that were easily a couple sizes too small. I used to like her videos, but these were just so bad. I stopped watching. Five minutes of research would have shown her exactly why clothes close to her size are priced and designed the way they are, and why her chosen outfits didn't look good on her. So I figured something else was going on. Those nonstop bad videos she was making were really kinda about something else: something deeper, a problem that was much more difficult to address and almost impossible to resolve. It's a lot easier to think instead on stuff like clothes not fitting right. Kristin, I'm really glad you were in a position that you could quit the oppressive job and find something better. I truly hope you are happier now. Best wishes to you and your lovely wife!
