I like these segments. Analyzing what's popular at the time. A lot of variety in styles if not always chords. Maybe the Beeb is getting tired of playing predictable dance hits. He may be maturing.

Cat power does a good cover of Dylan's stuck in Mobile with the Memphis blues. Also Maryanne Faithful covering Visions of Johanna. Nina Perrson covering Cohen's famous blue raincoat I thought was decent.

This had as much impact as Rush 2112 did on me. I can remember exactly what I was doing when I first heard both bands. Both Game changers for me. I hear a rolling stones style chord influence on this as well from Angie.

Just a slight nitpick, for your viewers/listeners....when you isolated the chorus you credited Cedric only. But the "get away, get away" part was Jim Ward.

i truly love Gilmore and Malmsteen equally... sometimes when i sit down and really think about it, i think to some degree that Gilmore has relied to heavily on his tone in the sense that he can be a little to calculated at times instead of venturing out and experimenting just a little more, especially in the moment and with his tone. regardless, they are both 2 of the greatest to ever pick up the axe.

I always thought the cheap monitors were to provide the mixers with output of what the average listener would have at home. The average person will probably only have a cheap set if speakers. So if you design the sound experience for an audiophile with a set of $20k floor standing speaker towers. I reckon the end mix wouldn't sound right when played through cheap speakers.

I too was 29 in '91 and it's getting harder and harder to find people who truly appreciated this music at the time. AIC dropped Facelift the year before, and that's when it all started for me. They were going to open for RHCP here in Vancouver, but couldn't get across the border for whatever reason. So, thanks Rick, it's nice to share with someone who has both the same taste and reverence in music, as well as a full head of silver locks.

I can only imagine her vocals over a few tracks where you have it striped down almost bluegrass purity kind of recording. She's the kind of artist you could do an album of multiple styles which is a win win win. Anyway.

Cool mon. That was a very interesting voyage. I hope that the band has a better experience this time around. I bet they do... One thing about things that are pure of the heart is that you can't keep them down. I really like the band too. She has an amazing voice. She is in the pocket in every aspect. It will be cool to see what they do. And i hope that you can get in on the creation. It's due to be a great. So the best Rick.

Anytime I can take some time to watch you it makes me want to pickup my guitar and either learn something new or just play some music. You analysis of the music is really exciting and fun to watch for "What Makes This Song Great?" videos. They are my favorite youtube content! You have any interest for doing Barracuda by Heart in "What make that song great"? There was an article in the Wall Street Journal "The Rage Behind Heart's 'Barracuda'" detailing impressions of the song by band members. Aside from that the song just kicks ass and I'd love to see your analysis of the musical components of that song. You ROCK for posting this! Thank you! :)
